before i start, just wishing everyone happy mid autumn festival - good to see that 78 had a gd time and some had a particularly good time :P hope many pple enjoyed the company of their families or even spent time with family.. after all that's the purpose of maf anyway isn't it.. 月圆人团圆

yeah so today marks the start of the 3-day orientation! that's what that word above means anyway, tutorial-for-first-semester-students. :) basically spent the morning listening to talks fr various pple, then got split up into small grps to get a tour of the uni, then went to apply for practical slots, then ended with a pub tour.

was great to meet new pple. surprising to me at first but not so when u consider that pple come fr all over germany to study here, alot of pple were standing around outside the lecture hall alone, like me. i thought i'd be the only one starting out without friends already but i'm so wrong. most pple are here all alone too, and in fact the few i spoke with were pretty apprehensive abt living away from family. :) the best thing abt today is, actually, that pple actually spoke to me! of course saying hi is the first step and i won't be shy abt that, but that conversation actually came out of it made me feel that these pple actually do wanna make friends too. maybe it's a silly worry to have, but before sch starts the thing that worried me abit was not schoolwork, hardly, but abt whether i'd be able to make friends. to those who think i'm so outgoing and all that, it's not the same in a language ure not so familiar with, you know.. like in singapore i can jus talk abt anything under the sun but here i'd have to think before speaking, and there's actually only that many topics one can talk abt when strangers first meet.

so there were abt 150 or so bio students, the biobio and the teaching-bio students. mostly girls, and mostly german. hmm, some interesting characters. at the beginning of the day i was sitting next to a woman who graduated fr highsch 5yrs ago, had a kid, started a family and decided she wanted to come back to uni. brave. another lady with almost shiny white hair sat in front of me, not sure how it works but looks like she'll be sitting in our lectures alot. :) many otherwise who recently graduated from highsch or did a gapyr after highsch and finally decided to go thru all the trouble, move to würzburg and start with the uni studies. all pretty big decisions, i think. hope most of us will go thru the whole thing together.

timetable looks alright, starts at 8 every morning, ending at 8pm on mon (bleah), 11am on tues, 4:30pm on wed, 11am on thurs, and 1pm on fri. if i get a foreign language class (it's thru balloting cos too many pple want it, badly enough to camp overnight outside the language centre. doesn't this remind us a certain country and people we know) then tues and thurs will be later, maybe till 6pm? heh. think i'll enjoy it :)

brought a girl home, who didn't have any accomodation yet for this orientation period. she'll be staying here for 2 nights then go back again, to bamberg which is an hr or so away. pretty nice to have some more company before my new flatmate moves in. speaking of whom, the story of how come she didn't turn up that day she was supposed to is SO embarrassing, i'm not going to talk abt it. in short, my fault. :P super damn paiseh.

and tonight it was the pub crawl. actually we only looked at a few pubs, and went into 3. i enjoyed sitting down and drinking, but when we went to the last one, a karoke-bar, where pple stand on the stage and sing and everyone else danced.. i realised it's not my thing. firstly, the german music is cute but i don't know them, so the fun of singing along is also mostly gone. secondly dancing is just not my thing. thirdly, i could do without a jacket stinking of smoke, and myself stinking of smoke. prob wont turn up for the party tmr :P well at least i can say i gave it a shot. :)

more stuffs tmr, hopefully will get to know more pple! when lectures start proper prob wont have all that time anymore.. :/
